In The Midst of Storms

In Life, no one is free from storms. When they come, there is no better place than to seek refuge in the Lord. Lessons from the good book show us where we can find refuge when storms come our way.

Jesus Calms a Storm ~Matthew 8:23-27
23 And when He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 A windstorm arose on the sea, so great that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but He was asleep. 25 And they went and woke Him up, saying, "Lord, save us! We are perishing!" 26 And He said to them, "Why are you afraid, you of little faith?" Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a dead calm. 27 They were amazed, saying, "What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?"

A Song of Praise
~Psalms 92:1-4

1 It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; 2 To declare Your steadfast love in the morning, and Your faithfulness by night, 3 To the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre. 4 For You, O Lord, have made me glad by Your work; at the works of Your hands I sing for joy.

The Love of God
~Psalms 103:1-5

1 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all His benefits - 3 Who forgives all your iniquity, Who heals all your diseases, 4 Who redeems your life from the Pit, Who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, 5 Who satisfies you with good as long as you live so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

The Love of God
~Psalms 103:1-5

1 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters; 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in right paths For His name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff - they comfort me.

Jesus The Good Shepherd
~John 10: 7-10

7 So Jesus again said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not heed them. 9 I am the door; if any one enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

True Happiness
~Psalms 1:1-3

1 Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; 2 But their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law they meditate day and night. 3 They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper.

A Prayer for Help
~Psalms 57:1-3

1 Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in You my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge, until the destroying storms pass by. 2 I cry to God Most High, to God who fulfills His purpose for me. 3 He will send from heaven and save me, He will put to shame those who trample on me. (Selah) God will send forth His steadfast love and His faithfulness.

Ask, Seek, Knock
~Matthew 7:7-11

7 "Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for bread, will give a stone? 10 Or if the child asks for a fish, will give a snake? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

Jesus Heals a Blind Beggar
~Luke 18:35-42

35 As He approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36 When he heard a crowd going by, he asked what was happening. 37 They told him, "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by." 38 Then he shouted, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" 39 Those who were in front sternly ordered him to be quiet; but he shouted even more loudly, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" 40 Jesus stood still and ordered the man to be brought to Him; and when he came near, He asked him, 41 "What do you want Me to do for you?" He said, "Lord, let me see again." 42 Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has saved you."

The Assurance of God’s Saving work
~Psalms 20:1-5

1 The Lord answer you in the day of trouble! The name of the God of Jacob protect you! 2 May He send you help from the sanctuary, and give you support from Zion. 3 May He remember all your offerings, and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices. (Selah) 4 May He grant you your heart's desire, and fulfill all your plans. 5 May we shout for joy over Your victory, and in the name of our God set up our banners. May the Lord fulfill all your petitions.

The Widow’s Offering
~Luke 21:1-4

1 He looked up and saw rich people putting their gifts into the treasury; 2 He also saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. 3 He said, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them; 4 For all of them have contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on."

Security In Wisdom
~Proverbs 4: 20-27

20 My child, be attentive to My words; incline your ear to My sayings. 21 Do not let them escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. 22 For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh. 23 Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. 24 Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you. 25 Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. 26 Keep straight the path of your feet, and all your ways will be sure. 27 Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.

In Him, Everything Will Be In Order
~Colossians 1:15-19

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; 16 For in Him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers - all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He Himself is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. 18 He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He might come to have first place in everything. 19 For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,
